Individual J-Term: Brookwood Day 4
Friday was a relaxing day. The morning started off with some lovely oatmeal and sausages before we headed off to work. In the morning, I went to Believe to Achieve. This is a unique program within Brookwood. For it's intention is to help improve fine motor skills rather than product production. Here, Mr. Stephen gave me a tour of their operations, which gave me significant insight into how they use this as training for other enterprises.
The next shop I worked at was packaging. Today, they were working on salad dressing. They did each step. From pouring in the dressing, sealing the lid, washing containers, and heat sealing them! Here, I got to mainly talk to Mr. Jeff, who has been at Brookwood for over 35 years, being one of the first 20 Brookwood Citizens. It was wonderful to hear his story and life and see how much positive impact Brookwood has had on him.
Once done with the packaging, I had a lovely nap before heading to the Tucker house for dinner. Here, we had some lovely pizza, and I got seconds. Then afterward, Mr. Rick was very excited to give me a tour of their house. Showing me each room and all the fun stories behind them! When done with the room tour, I watched some UT vs. Ohio State with the Tucker guys before heading back home.
Overall, today was a much-needed relaxing day. I had a lot of fun learning more about the history of Brookwood firsthand from citizens. Really shows me how, while Brookwood has expanded enormously, its core principles have stayed the same.
