Individual J-Term: Brookwood Day 11
Today was my final day at Brookwood, I can't believe it has already been 11 days! I have had such an incredible time, learning so much about special needs ministry and how God is working through this organization. I began the day with a special treat! The Rosenthal house was so unbelievably kind and made a special meal for my final day at Brookwood. Those were some of the best breakfast tacos I have ever had!
After that amazing meal, I walked to the cafe and talked to various citizens along the way. Once I arrived at the Cafe I was introduced to Ms. Tammy, the Cafe supervisor, hearing more about the Cafe's mission. Then Ms. Janice walked me around the Cafe showing and telling me everything that one should know. I have never worked in a restaurant, but Ms. Janice did a great job explaining to me what I should do, at the same time spreading laughter and joy with every sentence. Today was a unique day at the Cafe, for it was Mr. Richard's 55 birthday! We celebrated with cake, from the Cafe, and a wonderful happy birthday song. It absolutely made my day, seeing the sheer joy being able to spend his birthday working at the Cafe brought him. While working at the Cafe I was able to meet the various teenagers working alongside the citizens. It was fascinating hearing why they decided to work here and what they love about it. It was a very interesting experience, helping to serve at a restaurant. To be honest I don't think I am cut out for it. It is a lot of, hurry and waiting, and I personally feel a lot of internal pressure to represent Brookwood through our service. So while it was a privilege to see the other side of the Cafe, I think I might stick to Horticulture.
Once finished with the Cafe, I walked back to the Rosenthal house, packed up my bags, and said goodbye. I had such an amazing time at Brookwood. It has really helped me better sense what I want to do as a career later in life. I met so many incredible people, and it has been such a blessing calling Brookwood home for the past 11 days. Brookwood is a community of love and Christ, there isn't anything better than that. So while I may be saying goodbye now, I know in reality it is only a see you later.
